National K9 Veterans Day recognizes the heroic contributions of dogs that have served in the military, law enforcement, and search and rescue.

Police dogs, often referred to as K9s or K-9s, are specially trained to assist law enforcement officers in tasks ranging from tracking suspects and detecting narcotics to locating missing persons.
